Simple Home DIY Tutorials for Every Room:
These DIY decor for living room (or any room!) projects are chosen for their ease, affordability, and big impact. You’ll be surprised at what you can achieve!
1. Custom Abstract Wall Art (No Artistic Skills Required!)
This is one of my favorite Simple home DIY tutorials because anyone can do it, and the results are always unique.

- What you’ll need:
- Blank canvas or a sturdy piece of cardboard/plywood (any size you like!)
- Acrylic paints in 2-4 colors you love (can be budget-friendly craft paints)
- Old credit card, stiff cardboard scrap, or wide paintbrush
- Paper plate or palette for mixing paints
- Optional: Painter’s tape, a damp cloth for mistakes
- Quick Steps:
- Choose your base color and apply a thin layer over the entire canvas if desired, or leave it white. Let dry.
- Dab small amounts of your chosen colors onto different areas of the canvas. Don’t overthink placement.
- Using the edge of your credit card or cardboard scrap, drag the paint across the canvas, blending colors and creating interesting textures. Repeat and layer until you’re happy with the abstract design.
- Let dry completely. You can add a clear sealant spray for protection if desired.
- Why it works: It’s incredibly forgiving and results in a modern, personalized piece of art that perfectly matches your decor. A fantastic way to add DIY custom home accents.
2. Painted Furniture Refresh (Small Piece)
Give a tired piece of furniture a new lease on life with just a coat of paint. A small side table, nightstand, or chair is perfect for Crafting for home beginners.

- What you’ll need:
- A small wooden furniture piece (thrift store find or existing piece)
- Low-VOC chalk paint (no priming usually needed, easy to use) or all-in-one furniture paint
- Paintbrushes (a flat brush and a small detail brush)
- Painter’s tape (if you want crisp lines or two-tone)
- Drop cloth or old newspaper
- Optional: New knobs or pulls for an instant upgrade.
- Quick Steps:
- Clean your furniture piece thoroughly. Lightly sand any very glossy areas, but often with chalk paint, minimal prep is needed.
- Apply thin, even coats of paint. Two to three coats usually provide full coverage. Allow drying time between coats.
- If adding a two-tone design or stripes, apply painter’s tape after the first color is fully dry, then paint your second color. Remove tape immediately after painting.
- Let cure completely before using. Add new hardware if you wish.
- Why it works: It dramatically transforms a piece, making it feel custom and high-end for very little cost, fitting perfectly into Budget DIY home decor.
3. No-Sew Fabric Coasters
Protect your surfaces with cute, personalized coasters made from fabric scraps.

- What you’ll need:
- Two contrasting fabric pieces (about 6×6 inches each for one coaster, natural fibers like cotton work best)
- Fabric glue or iron-on hem tape
- Fabric scissors
- Iron
- Optional: Cardboard for a template
- Quick Steps:
- Cut your fabric squares (or circles!) to your desired coaster size (e.g., 4×4 inches). You’ll need two per coaster.
- Lay one fabric piece face down. Fold in each edge about 1/2 inch and press with an iron. Apply a thin line of fabric glue or use hem tape along the folded edges, pressing firmly. Repeat for the second fabric piece.
- Place one finished fabric piece on top of the other, lining up the edges. Use fabric glue or hem tape to secure them together around all four sides.
- Let dry/set completely before use.
- Why it works: A quick way to add small pops of color and texture to your DIY decor for living room or bedroom, using up fabric scraps and protecting your furniture.
